Shady border
This border has been designed to cope with very little direct sun. The plants are lush with normally large leaves to catch the sunlight. Many have flowers but are usually more subtle in colour than the brash reds and oranges associated with sunnier borders. Variegated leaves of some plants look stunning in shadier borders, and many bulbs naturally grow well in shadier spots. There are lots of evergreens in this group and most are low maintenance. Climbers include, Hydrangea petiolaris, Hedera ‘Goldheart’ and chaenomeles.
