Some people do not want to see any bare gaps in winter but love rich variations of green and variegated foliage. Some evergreens have purple or wine-red leaves others are golden yellow. Many evergreens flower as well as keeping their leaves, and if you get the combinations right it is possible to have interest and beauty all year round! An evergreen border is also useful to deter weed growth, allowing little opportunity for weeds to establish.
